About Us

Richard has been in private practice since 2010. Serving the Houston area with a style clients describe as honest, compassionate, and deeply engaged. He’s not the kind of therapist who sits back and nods. He’s right there with you, asking the questions that matter and helping you face what’s hard without ever losing hope.

Richard’s approach is rooted in real expertise. He previously served as the Clinical Director of a major psychiatric hospital, and he’s an approved supervisor for early-career therapists. His work has spanned everything from complex trauma and mood disorders to relationship repair and existential crises.

In 2009, he received a grant from the Texas Department of Health and Human Services to create Twogether in Texas, a premarital counseling program that offered free relationship support across North Houston.

Richard holds a Master’s in Counseling from The Houston Graduate School of Theology, where he developed a deep respect for the role of balanced spirituality in mental health and healing. His current work integrates neuroscience, developmental psychology, and meaningful therapeutic connection. All in service of helping clients reclaim clarity, confidence, and the freedom to live well.

What Makes Therapy Work?

Beginning therapy can feel intimidating. Even people who have been before feel a touch of anxiety. What will we do? What will they ask? Will this help?

Three things make the biggest difference according to research. One is your ability to reflect on your thoughts and feelings, as well as actually feel those feelings. This is hard for almost everyone, and the good news is, you will get better in therapy. The second is your willingness to look at your life with honesty and curiosity. Finally, and most importantly, is your trust in the therapist and the process itself. But why should you trust any therapist? Why trust us? That's a good question and why we think the phone consultation is so important. There are other forces at play, like social support, but these three carry most of the weight.

If any of this is hard for you we get it. It's hard for most of us, and the good news is this is exactly why having an experienced therapist is important. Because they can help you develop these essential skills.

This is also why we do more than sit and listen. Our job is to earn your trust by meeting you with respect, by asking the hard questions, and by naming what might be overlooked. Through this kind of work, you grow your own capacity to see yourself clearly. You build the skills as you go, if you’re willing.
